Questions VCs ask

What is Cura?

Cura is a portfolio management platform for early-stage venture capital firms, from solo GPs to corporate venture arms. It keeps one sourced record for every portfolio company. Cura reads the email updates, call notes, board decks, and spreadsheets that founders already send, and it watches LinkedIn, X, and the news between updates. Every revenue figure, burn rate, and KPI in the record links back to the email, call, or file it came from. Finance, investor relations, and platform teams then build audit responses, LP reports, and portfolio jobs boards from that same record. 30+ venture firms use Cura, including SV Angel, Okta Ventures, Atlassian Ventures, Storm Ventures, and Right Side Capital. As of September 2026, Cura tracks 1,800+ portfolio companies and has read 28,000+ documents. Cura started in June 2025. The team works from New York and Seattle, and the company is bootstrapped.

How does Cura collect portfolio data without founder forms?

Cura starts with what your firm already has. You connect Gmail, Granola, and the rest of your tools, and Cura backfills each company's history. It pulls revenue, burn, cash, headcount, and other KPIs out of board decks, financial spreadsheets, founder updates, and call notes. Then it checks each company for gaps. When a number is missing, Cura writes a short request that asks for that number and nothing else. The request goes out from your own inbox, with you in control. The founder replies to a normal email, and Cura files the answer with a link to its source. Founders never log in to a portal or fill out a form. Motivate Ventures reached about 75% KPI completion in its first quarter on Cura, its highest ever. Exceptional Capital went from kickoff to first value in 48 hours.

What do finance, investor relations, and platform teams do with Cura?

Each team works from the same company record, so every output comes with its sources. For audit and finance, you forward an auditor's request to Cura. Cura replies in the thread with the answer and links to the supporting documents, such as the stock purchase agreement and the cap table. Portfolio financials line up across point-in-time and period metrics, with every currency converted, so companies compare cleanly. For LP and investor relations, Cura builds quarterly LP reports in your fund's brand. It drafts fundraising collateral across every fund and answers LP questions with a link to each source. For platform and portfolio support, Cura runs a public jobs board for your portfolio and tracks every open role daily. It traces each intro you make to the deals it led to. Every ask in a founder's email becomes a task for your team, so none slip.

How much does Cura cost?

Cura publishes its pricing. The Emerging Manager plan costs $200 a month. It includes 3 seats and 20 tracked portfolio companies, and it is for firms with low AUM, small teams, and early funds. Every other firm gets a custom plan with unlimited seats, unlimited portfolio companies, and the modules and automations that the fund needs. Custom plans also connect Cura to your CRM, your notetaker, and your other tools. 90% of Cura customers pay between $5,000 and $15,000 a year. The price depends on portfolio size, modules, and automations. Tell the team what you want in Cura, and you get the exact price on the first call, without a long discovery process. Contracts are month-to-month or annual. After you sign, the team loads your portfolio into Cura, and the co-founders run your onboarding and support themselves.

How is Cura different from Standard Metrics?

Standard Metrics is a well-established platform, and many good firms run on it. Both products track portfolio company metrics and link each number to its source. The difference is where the data comes from. Standard Metrics is built around founder reporting: each company submits its financials on a set schedule, often through a founder login. Cura starts from what founders already send your firm, such as email updates, board decks, spreadsheets, and call notes. When a number is missing, Cura asks for that number alone, in an email from your own inbox. Between updates, Cura follows LinkedIn, X, news, and hiring for every company, so the record stays current when a founder rarely reports. That matters most to funds without information rights. Standard Metrics leads on peer benchmarking, with anonymized data from more than 10,000 startups. If benchmarks come first, it is a strong choice. If you want to ask less of your founders, Cura fits better.
